I came across this abandoned service station shortly before nightfall, as I was driving through a small town in central Hokkaido in August 2014. Thinking that I was unlikely to find anything more interesting in the short time remaining before it got dark, I decided to stop and take some photographs. All the doors were locked, so I was unable to get inside, but I was quite happy with my exterior shots.
As usual in Japan, it looks like when the place was abandoned most of the contents were left behind, although the gasoline pumps had been removed. I didn't see any vandalism; the building looked like it had been left completely undisturbed, apart from the slow natural processes of decay.
