Homebush Bay is a former industrial area at the western end of Sydney Harbour. During the 1960's and 70's a shipbreaking yard was in operation, and ships were moored in the bay before being cut up for scrap.
Apparently the shipbreaking business ceased around 1972, before the last of the ships were fully scrapped. They were instead left at their moorings to form an interesting ship graveyard. The remains of at least four ships and a barge now lie slowly rusting away in the middle of Australia's largest city.
I visited Homebush Bay multiple times between December 2017 and June 2018, using my kayak to explore and photograph the wrecks. Much of the bay is now heavily silted and extremely shallow at low tide, so the kayak's shallow draft came in handy. Being low in the water and having an extremely short roll period made it a less than ideal photographic platform, however. I also took some photographs from the shore.
